How can I learn other languages online?
The first place you want to start is the library’s website. https://www.bcls.lib.nj.us/ Go to the “e learning and research” drop down menu and select “Online Resources” and “A to Z”. Scroll down to “Rosetta Stone – Library Solution”. After entering your library barcode number, click “sign in”. You will be directed to create an account, and then you will be able to access Rosetta Stone. Please be aware that your subscription is through your library card, so you will need to access Rosetta Stone through the BCLS website in order to access the site for free.
You can also check our catalog https://bcls.polarislibrary.com/polaris/for language learning books and CD’s. The best search term is “name of language + language materials”. Please note that we also have language learning materials available in e-book and audio-e-book form. Go to https://www.bcls.lib.nj.us/. Go to the “Search the Catalog” dropdown menu and select “e-books” or “audio books” and search for the language you wish to learn.
When you are browsing the library shelves for language learning materials, the Dewey Decimal System number is 428.
There are many language learning websites and apps available online. You might want to try Duolingo https://www.duolingo.com/ LiveMocha https://www.livemochas.com/ or Memrise https://www.memrise.com/ Coursera https://www.coursera.org/ also offers basic language lessons.
You can also learn some American Sign language basics at Lifeprint http://www.lifeprint.com/ or Handspeak https://www.handspeak.com/word/ or NIDCD https://www.nidcd.nih.gov/health/american-sign-language
